Final outline

Cast- Caitlin, Tom, Joe

Film Idea- To re-create a scene from Friends where Joey, Ross, and Chandler are going to play a new game show that Joey is auditioning for Bamboozle. With the film my brother and sister are going to start downstairs, and Caitlin wants to play some Monopoly and Tom agrees to play but when they come upstairs to ask me to play I can’t because I’m trying to figure out how the game of Bamboozle works. Caitlin ends up asking me if she and Tom can help me prepare for the audition, and understand the game of Bamboozle better. Tom isn’t a big fan of Bamboozle because he rather play Monopoly, and it shows as he is sarcastic with some of the answers that he provides throughout the beginning and middle of the film. As we start playing Bamboozle it shows how I’m not able to understand the rules of the game since I have some confusion with the cards and the rules. As the scenes go on from one cut to the next so does the game as the leader change from Tom to Caitlin, and back and forth from there with the suspicion of who’s going to win the practice game. Towards the tale end of the game you see how the characters from myself the host to the contestants Caitlin and Tom start the gain better knowledge of the game where Tom ends up not only loving the game towards the end, but also getting Bamboozle because he picked a Google card, and Caitlin ends up winning the game.

Basic Media Production Semester Reflection

I want to start off by saying that I know this was not a required assignment, or an assignment at all. However, I feel like I got a lot out of this course, and I wanted you (Professor Drew) to know what I was able to gain from this class and the projects we’ve done.

I have always been a fan of movies and tv shows, but in the recent years, my interest has deepened. I think part of my interest had to do with my fascination in and desire to tell stories. I was always in awe of large-scale movie sets and high-quality cinematography, but I never gave much thought to how certain shots were taken or how a specific scene was framed. This class gave me the ability to see those techniques and to identify them with the correct terms. Now I’ll hear a door slam or footsteps going up the stairs in a tv show and movie, and I’ll realize that the noise didn’t come from an actual door and the footsteps weren’t real, but they were sound effects edited in during post-production.

I’m a fan of Hindi films, so that is predominantly the cinema that I watch. One of the great things that I’ve noticed is the universality of movie-making. Whether in the East or the West, many of the core techniques and functions remain the same. Not only can I apply what I’ve learned to the many American tv shows that I watch, but also to the Bollywood movies to which I have always been a dedicated audience member.

When I listen to interviews of directors from the Hindi film industry, I have a deeper understanding the terminology that they use, because of this class. One director, while explaining his process, says that he never creates a story board until the set is fully designed. While he was talking about his pre-production process, I was able to relate (on a smaller scale) because now I’ve had the experience of making a few short films. So not only has the techniques and terminology you teach us in class benefited me, but also the hands-on experience.

Although stressful at times, mostly during shooting footage, it was a great learning experience and an enjoyable class. Thanks for doing what you do and for being so passionate about films and film making!

Narrative / Storyboard on Final Project by Nisha Chand

Storyboard - Christmas - by Nisha ChandMy final film will be based on Christmas. It will be an abstract form of of a documentary. For every Christmas, we take out time to decorate our homes. The lights make the environment so much more cheerful. We write to Santa Clause in hopes that we have been good enough all year to earn presents from Santa. We leave cookies and milk to allow Santa enjoy his visit to our homes.

I am not Christian or Catholic, etc, but I envision Christmas as a wonderful turn of events and a fabulous way to end a year. No matter how much strife, turmoil, sadness, anger, busy, or down one feels, the environment of the Christmas cheer brings hope and bliss. The holiday events, the holiday cheers, the holiday gatherings, the wishes, all these little activities bring so much happiness that the sorrow can be forgotten. It’s a great time in the year for those who are lucky.

So in my film, I hope to bring some cheer into life. I hope to show the efforts put in to decorating a tree. I want to take a minute and observe this young girl that came across my FaceBook. Her name is Safyre Terry – She is a survivor of a Arsen Fire that killed her parents. Her wish this year is to receive Christmas Cards from around the world. I will also send one. I will capture this special moment this way. I hope to show many decorated houses on a road trip while I talk about it cheer they bring to me.  In the end, I’ll show us with some gifts under the tree. Because at the end, that’s what it’s all about for a child. The gifts. But for me, it’s about opening the gift of hope into a new year.

Character list:

Me, my daughter, family, The Decorated Homes, and Safyre Terry on Facebook and other media. Also, Santa Clause (in conversation only).

Reflection on Documentary “Cancer: The Forbidden Cures”

I had taken time out to actually watch this documentary. This documentary makes me think about how real this situation may be. Why wouldn’t anyone want humanity to survive and be rid of such a disease like cancer? After watching this, I am influenced to think that the FDA and AMA are all about pharmaceuticals based capital gains. The well being of a human life has no place or value in a profitable business. It’s a wonder why none of the natural ‘ayurvedic’ remedies are endorsed by the FDA. This documentary made me feel sad for the victims of cancer, and irritated on their behalf. I felt a lot of animosity growing against AMA for taking so much control over the medical industry, and therefore our lives.  It seems true, and I wonder about the truth in the cure that Renee Cassie found. The treatment she gave was named the reverse of her last name, as Eissac. 1938, she received 55,000 signatures for her petition to legalize her cure, which was rejected by the legislation. The legislation claimed that the the patients were mistakenly diagnosed, and that the diagnosis were only legally allowed by doctors. Her clinic did not survive for long afterwards. She had the proof and the patients to back her, but still the legislation did not permit her to use her remedy to cure patients. FDA did not approve her remedy. In fact, the authorities attempted to get her arrested for trying to treat patients without authority. In fact, in some states it was established that it will be a felony for any doctor to prescribe their patients Eissac. Similarly, Harold Hoxey, N.D., founder of the Hoxey clinic, also put up a fight to legalize natural remedies discovered in the treatment of cancer. He was arrested many times for trying to treat and for fighting for his belief. To disseminate his theory, he even made a movie in 1957, called “You Don’t Have To Die”. In fears that the Hoxey treatment was becoming of demand over the solutions FDA approved and offered in hospitals, the medical authorities produced a public warning notice cautioning public from using the Hoxey treatment. Furthermore, they closed down his 17 clinics. Hoxey finally gave up his fight after 25 years and opened a new clinic in Mexico, and is still successful.

Script for My Final Project

Characters – Aaron, Justin, Jasper

*Fade up*

*Setting- A Dorm Room*

Aaron (Voice-over)- Ughh. Morning everyone. I’m Aaron. I don’t have a ton of friends on campus but I do have my best friend Jasper. We’ve been together since elementary school. He’s crazy cool. We usually hang by ourselves on weekends but we wanted to introduce me to his new friend-

Justin (Voice-over)- I’m Justin. I’d usually never wake up this early but I’m meeting my man Jasper and one of his old friends for lunch. Jasper is cool, and one of my only friends. Now you may ask yourself how can a handsome, funny, smooth guy like me not have a lot of friends. I’m a loner. I’d rather not get caught up having too many friends. So it goes without saying that I really don’t want to meet Aaron.

Aaron (Voice-over)- I have a good feeling about Justin. I think we’ll hit it off.

Justin – For some reason I kinda hate Aaron and I’ve never even met him. Huh.

Aaron (Voice-over)- The three of us are going to be great friends.

*Scene change*

*Setting- Hallway*

*Same Time*

Aaron and Justin- Hey

Aaron (voice over)- Oh my God does he know he has food in his teeth?

Justin (Voice over)- This kid has his sweater on backwards.

Final Film narrative arc

For my final film, I’m doing a documentary on how the recent events in the news has affected the Muslim community, especially on campus. I will be interviewing 5 Adelphi students about their experiences and thoughts about the prejudice and discrimination, as well as the some of the positive outcomes that occurred in response to Donald Trump’s comments about banning Muslims from this country.

One girl who I was very interested in interviewing for the documentary told me that her parents were very uncomfortable with her being a part of this documentary, which I assured her would only be shown to this class, because they worry that much about her safety. They have asked her to take off the hijab, a part of her religion that she is unwilling to compromise, and now limit her from going out unnecessarily because they fear she will be attacked in some way. I will blur her face in the documentary and will not use her name, but her story is a primary example of why this documentary needs to be made and will be the focus of the documentary.

Questions I will ask include:

  • How do you think recent events in the media have affected Muslims within the past few weeks?
  • Do you have any personal experiences in which you fear for your safety because of your religion?
  • What would you tell someone who has prejudices or fears about Muslims or the Islamic faith?
  • Have you ever been discriminated against because of your faith?

For B-roll, I will be shooting footage of different things that represent the Muslim faith: a woman putting her hijab on, someone praying, etc. I am also thinking about filming some footage inside of a mosque.
